Red Lorry Yellow Lorry – PR Account Assistant – August 2010 – July 2011

I worked at the lorries, a brand building PR agency specialised in telecoms, media and IT for my degree placement year as an account assistant. I worked predominantly on one account but assisted from time to time on others and helped with some general admin. I gained great experience here working on a globally recognised client; I was given the opportunity to build relationships with the client, industry journalists and the partner agencies in Europe. I was also given a great amount of responsibility with this client, I helped organise press events for their products, attended trade shows and client meetings. Some of the skills I gained and developed are media liaison, press clippings, organising events, writing monthly and quarterly reports, drafting press releases and writing media alerts.

Montpellier Public Relations – PR Assistant – September 2009 – December 2010

Montpellier PR was my first experience of agency life and I loved it. My first day I went home exhausted after stressing about get a pitch proposal from one side of the country to the other for the 9am deadline the following morning. The buzz in the office was indescribable and this is what made me fall in love with PR. I worked here for one week at the start of my second year and from then on proceeded to work every Friday until the Christmas holidays. During my time at Montpellier PR I dealt with press enquiries, I worked with clients; I conducted research and drafted press releases and news articles.

BAM Construct UK – Corporate Comms – PR Assistant – July 2009

It was here that I had my first taster of what working in an office environment was all about. During my month in BAM’s corp comms department I was given a lot more to do than I was expecting, I drafted cases studies and short snippets for the internal intranet, I interviewed an employee about their work, wrote a press release and succeed in having it printed in a local newspaper. I also assisted on a piece for the internal magazine and sat in on meetings with the in-house design team to discuss layout. This month with BAM gave me great insight into an area of the industry of which I wanted to become a part of.
